Environmental Engineering
Environmental Engineering Program
About the Program
Environmental Engineering is a branch of engineering that examines and finds solutions to environmental pollution the primary problem of the age. Today, in the world, there is a need for engineers who have expertise in terms of controlling drinking water quality, wastewater and solid waste control, and air and soil pollution. Studies have been carried out into ecological balance, energy, food and water conservation, recycling, the effective and efficient use of edible resources. Environmental Engineering is an application-oriented department like the other branches of engineering. Most of the courses given in the 3rd and 4th years are backed up by the various projects, applications and internships that are carried out in the summer. Graduates will be able to put the theoretical knowledge gained during their 4 years of study into practice and research into finding solutions to current problems.
Educational Opportunities
The Department of Environmental Engineering at Cyprus International University aims to train students to be able to work in the design, operation, supervision and construction of engineering structures and systems that can ensure the recover degraded nature and prevent pollution. Throughout the four-year course students undertake courses and projects in the main topics of water and waste water treatment plants, water networks, design of transmission lines, solid waste control, modelling and control of air pollution, environmental management and planning and noise pollution control. Students study theory, practical lessons and graduation projects in the analysis laboratory, computer rooms and library. Environmental engineers have an important role in making the world a better place to live in and achieving the objectives of sustainable development. Students receive an education in line with these goals, understanding the importance of their profession.
Career Areas
After graduation, students studying environmental engineering find work in state or private institutions or establish their own businesses where undertake project design, implementation and environmental management. As a result of studying in the Department of Environmental Engineering graduates start careers in the control of drinking water quality, sewage, the design and construction of storm water networks, as well as the selection, design, construction and operation of domestic and industrial wastewater treatment system, noise pollution control and air pollution and its control. Graduates of the department can take place in multi disciplinary projects and play roles in law, politics and management parts of these projects.
