About the Program
Our Department curriculum and the graduate students have essential privileges regarding the targeted characteristics. This department aims to train nurses who develop nursing practices through critical thinking and research, working as an active member of the healthcare team, providing nursing care services in health, disease prevention, treatment and supportive qualities through individual/family and collective "Planned Nursing Care."
An education that follows and transposes current developments, especially regarding health protection and individual-centred care, is pursued in this department. In addition to compulsory courses given to students according to program learning objectives, elective courses are offered according to the preferences of students, who are equipped for both professional and personal development in line with their interests. Students also have the opportunity to experience many professional skills in a well-equipped laboratory environment. Following the laboratory practice sessions, different hospitals and institutions provide concrete information and skills acquired during the program.
Educational Opportunities
In both departments, training is conducted as theoretical, pre-clinical skill labs and clinical training. In these laboratories there are two adult models allowing basic nursing practices, a simulation model for cardiopulmonary massage, a pregnancy simulation model for delivery practices, a neonatal care and application model, skeleton, anatomy model, sphygmomanometer, aspirator, and a chest tube drainage device is also available. In the laboratories, students have the opportunity to do small group work and practice all kinds of applications which are necessary for their profession. The department conducts its education with three professors, three assistant professors and five instructors in its staff. In addition to this instructor staff, the instructor team of the university is also utilized. The department is located on the campus of the University. There are canteens and cafeterias, sports facilities, a swimming pool and a student dining room on the campus. Our students also benefit from the common library of the institution.
Career Areas
Nurses can work in many governmental and private health sector areas (hospitals, factories, rehabilitation centers, elderly care homes, child care homes, disabled nursing homes, family and community health centers) as nurses, chief nurse of units or hospitals. Nurses' working areas are changing and developing with changing health care needs and a changing population structure. With this change, an increase is expected in the number of day care centers and inpatient care centers. In addition to this, the shortening of the length of stay in hospital and the follow-up of patients and the elderly at home and home-care needs at home have become important. Nurses can also work in these areas. In addition to the nursing education, graduates receiving a teaching certificate can work in nursing colleges. They can also take a place in nursing schools, health vocational schools, and later master’s and PhD education. In this way they can work as individuals who contribute to the development of the profession, both as an instructor and as a researcher.
