About the Program

The physiotherapy profession involves becoming a specialist physician in all kinds of injuries, illnesses, and dysfunctions, leading to movement disorder, pain, and dysfunctions, using physiotherapy-specific evaluation methods, as well as gaining the knowledge and skills to plan and apply treatment approaches as developed by physiotherapists around the world. With over 100 years of the physiotherapy profession carried out in the Republic of Turkey and in the TRNC for nearly 50 years, physiotherapy is a profession with important duties. Today, physiotherapists are actively working to increase numbers of independent actors and health-related survivors, increasing the quality of life in all situations where movement and function are threatened by various causes. The modern and future needs of societies which are increasingly immobilized due to the developing technology in the world and our country make the development of the physiotherapist profession inevitable.

 

Educational Opportunities

In order to become a physiotherapist, it is necessary to enter the faculties and vocational schools which provide training in physiotherapy and rehabilitation. The education given in the school lasts four years and the students can continue their education in master’s and doctorate programs. During the training of physiotherapists the following are covered: physiology, pathology, neurology, orthopedics, brain and neurosurgery, internal medicine, rheumatology, neuroanatomy, gynecology and obstetrics as well as heat-light-hydrotherapy, kinesiology, normal motor development, manipulative therapy, electrotherapy, basic measurement, and theoretical and practical courses specific to the profession, such as: evaluation, treatment movements, neurophysiological approaches, pulmonary and cardiac rehabilitation, orthosis-prosthesis and rehabilitation, pediatric rehabilitation, sports health and rehabilitation. Summer internships are given in the 2nd and 3rd years of education and practical exams are applied in the 4th year in a clinical study and final examination including the application and evaluation process being applied at the end of training. The course is taught with the expertise and professional experience of a high school faculty member to improve students' imagination and analytical thinking ability.

 

Career Areas

Physiotherapists have a bright future in the world and in our country today. They are active in various units of public and private sector hospitals (neurology, orthopedics and traumatology, rheumatology, sports injuries, cardio-pulmonary, chest diseases, intensive care, etc.), and since more academics are needed, they can work as research assistants, lecturers, and administrators in the physiotherapy and rehabilitation departments of universities.

Also, they are able to work as an academician by taking the specialization of science and a doctorate degree in specialized branches of the physiotherapy and rehabilitation field and can contribute to the development of blood-based applications by reaching associate professorship and professorship degrees in the field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation science.
